Heidi and David Miege
Rowing experience:
My name is Heidi and I row with the Shuswap Rowing and Paddling Club in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, Canada. I started rowing in 2018, when I was 11 years old. I have raced in a few local races, usually with my dad, David. He rowed at varsity, national and international levels from 1985 to 1992. In 1992 he won 2 medals at the Pan American Games in Havana, Cuba, representing Canada.
Age:
14 and 55
What does rowing mean to you?
For us it is a special way to spend time together. In the winter, I am a member of the local cross-country ski team, and Dad is one of my coaches. When the ice is gone from our lake, we start our rowing practices. We are lucky to live in a beautiful place with many fun activities to do in all seasons.
What do you like about the Virtual Head of the River 2021?
We were not able to do any racing last year, so this is our first event in a long time. Even though we will be on our own lake, it feels very nice to be able to connect to other people across the world in the rowing community.
In what field do you want to participate?
We will be participating in the mixed double, and my dad will row the Men’s Masters single for 8km.
Who do you want to challenge?
We challenge other parent-child doubles to race the 4 kilometre Virtual Head of the River 2021!
