The rowing championship on the Amstel for Fours and Eights will take place in 2013, March 17. This event, also known as the Head of the River Amstel, is the biggest/most prestigious rowing event held yearly in the Netherlands.
As in previous years more than 500 crews, representing over 4000 rowers from the dutch rowing nation, are expected to compete in this event. A large number of divisions will compete in this event. Ages varying from 15 to 70 years of age and all levels of experience from novice to elite(SA).
The Head of the River Amstel is one of the oldest dutch rowing events. The Men’s rowing championship was first organised in 1933, which makes this years event the 76th anniversary. For Women the coming championship will be held for the 55th time.
The race will be rowed in coxed Fours and Eights. Men and Women row the same distance of approximmatly 8 kilometres starting from Amsterdam and ending at Ouderkerk. After the first start, at 10:00am, the following starts will take place continuously till 17:00. The full length of the coarse will be divided by buoys into a racing lane and a warm-up lane.
The most important event is the race for the blue ribbon. This is the honorary price for the winner of the Senior A men's eight. In this event all dutch top athletes will compete.
